Postdoctoral Researcher - Metabolic Engineering and Synthetic Microbiology
Job Summary:We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our team at the SynMicBio Laboratory at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. The successful candidate will be involved in developing technology for microbial-based consolidated bioprocess of plastic, with a focus on identifying the chemical toxicity of plastic-derived products through multi-omics analysis using a novel bacterial host strain.
Responsibilities:- Optimize plastic-hydrolyzing pathways and metabolic engineering to improve new pathways and genes for the production of high-value chemicals from mixed plastic.
- Scale up activities in bioreactor cultivations and improve strain performance.
- Teach selected lectures in biotechnology/molecular biology courses, mentor students, and engage in outreach activities.
- Recent PhD graduate within the last three years.
- Experience with systems biology methods, including multi-omics analysis (RNA-seq, proteomics, and metabolomics).
- Research experience in metabolic engineering and synthetic biology in non-model bacteria.
- Strong record of quality peer-reviewed publications.
- Development and implementation of novel genetic tools.
- Experience with NGS sequencing, bioinformatics, and programming (Python).
- Development and deployment of CRISPR-based applications.
