Postdoctoral Research Fellow

The Commonwealth of Virginia, through the Center for Spatial Information Science and Systems (CSISS), invites applications for two (2) full-time Postdoctoral Research Fellow positions.
These positions are an NSF-funded research project focused on building a digital twin for national-scale field-level crop monitoring, modeling, prediction, and decision support and automation.
ResponsibilitiesThe two (2) Postdoctoral Research Fellows will focus on developing a digital twin for national-scale field-level crop monitoring, modeling, prediction, and decision support and automation.
- Develop and refine algorithms and workflows for crop monitoring, modeling, prediction, and decision support and automation;
- Develop agriculture digital twin theory, methods, and systems for smart cropping decisions;
- Publish and disseminate research at top-tier journals and conferences;
- Supervise graduate research assistants and student interns.
To be considered for this position, applicants must have:
- A terminal degree in a related field;
- Knowledge of and experience in geospatial information systems, crop modeling, or digital twin;
- Relevant programming skills.
Applicants with the following qualifications are highly desirable:
- Experience with full-stack development for decision support systems in the Web environment;
- Experience in software development with Open Source Geospatial software and libraries, e.g. GDAL or other open source geospatial packages under OSGeo;
- Experience in programming with multiple languages (e.g. Java, C/C++, Python) for geospatial information systems, agro-informatic applications, crop modeling, or digital twin;
- Experience in data management and databases;
- A track record that demonstrates the ability to work well with interdisciplinary research teams;
- Knowledge of Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML).
