POSITION OVERVIEW

Under general oversight, this role involves functioning as a professional psychologist at an advanced level, utilizing psychological principles across several key domains: assessment, intervention, research, training, and clinical advisory services.

Positions in this category typically report to a senior clinical supervisor and independently deliver a comprehensive array of professional psychological services related to the diagnosis and treatment of mental health and co-occurring disorders. Incumbents are tasked with selecting, administering, and interpreting various psychological assessment tools, as well as providing individual, group, and family therapy sessions.

These roles necessitate a deep understanding of abnormal, developmental, personality, and social psychology; the theories and practices of individual and group psychotherapy; crisis intervention methodologies; relevant legal and ethical standards; and the principles of psychopharmacology and psychobiology. Additionally, incumbents must possess the ability to foster positive therapeutic relationships with clients, conduct crisis interventions, make suitable referrals, and effectively communicate both orally and in writing.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Administers and interprets a diverse range of psychological assessments to assist in the diagnosis and evaluation of clients with psychiatric and co-occurring disorders, or for a centralized program offering fitness-for-duty evaluations to employees and candidates. Produces comprehensive reports detailing diagnostic findings and treatment recommendations. Engages in direct service activities, including diagnostic evaluations, structured clinical interviews, and various therapy modalities. Implements a variety of treatment approaches, including psychotherapy, behavior modification, and evidence-based practices such as cognitive-behavioral therapy. Collaborates with clients to enhance their engagement in treatment, establishing treatment goals and designing strategies that promote recovery and resilience. Assesses client responses to treatment, adjusts strategies as necessary, and involves clients in the decision-making process. As part of a multidisciplinary team, develops treatment plans and determines case dispositions, including identifying treatment outcomes. Gathers and reviews medical, psychological, social, and family histories through interviews and record examination. Provides mentorship and guidance to interns and unlicensed psychologists. Offers consultation to other healthcare providers regarding the psychological and behavioral dimensions of medical conditions. Participates in professional discussions regarding psychological assessment techniques and outcomes. Plays an advisory role in the recruitment of new psychology professionals, including trainees and interns. May provide expert testimony in legal settings regarding psychological evaluations. Initiates and conducts psychological research studies, providing justification for implementing departmental or service programs and collaborating on multidisciplinary initiatives.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

A Doctorate in psychology or a closely related field from an accredited institution.

Licenses and Certifications

A valid psychologist license issued by the appropriate state board. A valid driver's license. Successful completion of background checks as required.

Skills and Competencies

Proven ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Flexibility to adapt to program changes and varied responsibilities. Strong interpersonal skills with effective verbal and written communication abilities. Capability to independently resolve problems. Excellent organizational skills.
