JOB SUMMARY

This position is tasked with the custodial upkeep of university buildings and facilities, while also providing guidance and mentorship to Custodian I staff.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Conduct thorough cleaning, sanitization, and detailing of restrooms; ensure dispensers are replenished.
- Dust and wipe down furniture and fixtures.
- Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors; strip, clean, wax, and buff flooring surfaces.
- Empty and sanitize waste receptacles.
- Secure and unlock buildings as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness in classrooms and laboratories.
- Manage the loading and unloading of supplies; organize and stock storage areas.
- Address spills and broken glass promptly.
- Relocate furniture as necessary.
- Assist in preparations for special events.
- Report maintenance requirements to the supervisor.
- Perform related tasks as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

- Familiarity with materials, equipment, and techniques used in the custodial maintenance of public facilities.
- Understanding of the operation, maintenance, and repair of various custodial equipment.
- Proficiency in decision-making and problem-solving.
- Effective communication skills.
- Consistent attendance is essential.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work involves a combination of sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, and crouching.

The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy items, climbs ladders, and uses tools or equipment that require a high level of dexterity, along with utilizing the sense of smell.


The work environment includes offices, stockrooms, various university buildings, and outdoor settings, occasionally in cold or inclement weather.

The employee may encounter noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, or irritating chemicals.

Use of protective equipment such as masks, goggles, and gloves is required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

- Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations.

Experience sufficient to grasp the fundamental principles related to the primary responsibilities of the position, typically gained through an apprenticeship/internship or similar role for one to two years.

Possession of or ability to quickly obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Oklahoma for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
