The Hospital Sanitation Specialist works under the supervision of the Environmental Services Supervisor, collaborating closely with the Environmental Services Manager. The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver both standard and specialized cleaning services across various areas of the healthcare facility, including patient rooms, administrative offices, corridors, communal spaces, floors, and public areas, ensuring the establishment remains clean, hygienic, safe, and visually appealing. The technician is also tasked with the collection and transportation of both infectious and regular waste. Additionally, responsibilities may include unloading, restocking, and distributing linen supplies according to established quotas and par levels, as well as removing soiled linens from designated areas. This position requires independent work in alignment with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as organizational policies and procedures. A self-motivated and creative approach is essential to thrive in this dynamic and fast-paced environment.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
- Completes all scheduled cleaning tasks, including the cleaning of furniture, equipment, walls, ceilings, windows, sinks, toilets, blinds, light fixtures, and replenishing paper supplies.
- Engages in sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, dusting (including high ledges, sills, and door frames), and other cleaning activities.
- Collects, transports, and disposes of waste, including hazardous materials, soiled linens, and sanitizes biowaste containers in accordance with policies to maintain a safe and sanitary environment.
- Handles and disposes of cleaning chemicals following established safety protocols to ensure a secure and hygienic environment.
- Ensures compliance with infection control, OSHA, and safety standards within the department.
- Disposes of recyclable materials in designated containers.
- Maintains compliance standards during the cleaning of specialized hospital areas (e.g., Operating Room Suites, Pharmacy Compounding Lab).
- Assists the Laundry department and Floor Technicians as required.
- Prepares, cleans, and sanitizes community rooms for meetings and seminars.
- Moves equipment and furniture as necessary for cleaning purposes.
- Restocks supplies and materials in assigned areas and patient rooms as needed.
- Inspects and ensures that all assigned areas are thoroughly cleaned and in good condition, reporting any maintenance needs immediately.
- Demonstrates proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Participates in meetings, mandatory training, and ongoing education.
- Adheres to all safety and sanitation regulations as per JCAHO, federal and state guidelines, and organizational policies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education Level: High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred; or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Licensure, Certification, Registration: None
Work Experience: Requires up to three months of work-related experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Experience in the healthcare sector is preferred.
