Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Physician Assistant to join our Emergency Medicine team at Johns Hopkins University. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to provide high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive patient histories and physical examinations, including chief complaints, presenting signs and symptoms, and past medical history.
  • Order and interpret laboratory tests, x-rays, diets, physical therapy, and other services as delegated by a supervising physician.
  • Initiate IV therapy, perform injections, arterial puncture, venipuncture, and arterial line insertion, and initiate basic and advanced life support in emergency situations.
  • Prepare chart documentation for review and counter signature by the physician.
  • Determine differential diagnoses and maintain technical proficiency with approved procedures, including suturing, wound care, and orthopedic care.
  • Prescribe and regulate medications, evaluate outcomes of previously implemented interventions, and attend staff meetings to discuss patient and unit requirements.
  • Give input for design of research protocols and procedures, and be responsible for the conduct of EM-sponsored clinical trials, including regulatory issues, recruitment, and good clinical practice.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Certification by the NCCPA or similar national certifying body.
  • Completion of a CAAHEP-certified Physician Assistant program.
  • Must be licensed as a PA in the State of Maryland or other state where practicing.
  • Experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Emergency Medicine experience desirable.
  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR certification required.
