Job Summary:

As a Phlebotomist in the Pediatric Cancer Center, you will be responsible for drawing blood from inpatients and potential pediatric research participants. This role requires expertise in venipuncture and skin punctures, as well as excellent customer service skills. You will work under minimal supervision, performing patient and order verification, generating specimen collection labels, and properly packaging specimens for delivery. Additionally, you will stock blood drawing carts and maintain a clean, safe, and sterile environment. This position requires a high school graduate or equivalent, current CPR training, and the ability to follow oral and written instructions. Qualifications include phlebotomy certification, IV insertion and IV certification, and EMT-B or EMT-P certification.

Responsibilities:

Perform venipuncture and skin punctures with expertise and in a customer service-oriented fashion
Properly package specimens for delivery through the pneumatic tube system
Stock blood drawing carts and maintain a clean, safe, and sterile environment
Use a handheld system to identify patients, indicate specimen collection status, and generate specimen collection labels

Requirements:

High school graduate or equivalent
Current CPR training recognized by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Ability to follow oral and written instructions and perform a variety of patient assistance without direct supervision
Ability to interact effectively with patients, clinical staff, and the general public
