Position Overview

As a member of the Real Assets Consulting division at Callan, a prominent independent investment advisory firm, you will collaborate with a dedicated team of research and consulting experts focused on the asset classes of real estate, infrastructure, farmland, and timberland. This team nurtures relationships with institutional investor clients, guiding them through all stages of the investment consulting process, including strategic planning, implementation, performance assessment, and educational initiatives. Additionally, the team undertakes investment manager due diligence and searches. This role encompasses various responsibilities related to both client consulting and manager research.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Assist senior real assets consultants in managing client relationships by producing various client deliverables, including market updates, performance presentations, and other ad-hoc projects.
  2. Gather and analyze data for manager search and evaluation projects, liaising with investment managers to ensure the accuracy of the information provided.
  3. Support investment manager due diligence across the real assets sector, preparing committee packages and search books for manager searches and due diligence memoranda for evaluations.
  4. Assess and monitor investment managers based on a wide range of criteria, articulating your evaluations both verbally and in writing.
  5. Contribute to the RFP process as part of business development efforts, including preparing responses and coordinating logistics.
  6. Engage in various performance reporting and monitoring tasks.
  7. Collaborate with Callan consultants and other research professionals across all offices on client educational topics, portfolio structuring, and general inquiries related to real assets.
  8. Enhance Callan's research output through blog posts, creative thought pieces, client workshops, and market-related webcasts.
  9. Pursue and cultivate research interests beyond real assets, including ESG, DEI, and industry trends.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  2. CFA and/or CAIA designation (progress toward or interest in earning one or both designations preferred).
  3. 1-4 years of relevant industry experience preferred.
  4. Demonstrated interest in investing and following capital markets.
  5. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  6. Strong communication, presentation, and writing skills with a commitment to continuous learning and development.
  7. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  8. Commitment to ethical conduct in all professional activities.
  9. Willingness to seek answers and ask questions when necessary, demonstrating active listening skills.
  10. Ability to work collaboratively within a team to find optimal solutions for clients.
