Position Overview:
This role reports directly to the Health and Wellness Director (RN) and is classified as a salaried, exempt position. The primary responsibility is to design, develop, and coordinate the Alcohol and Other Drugs of Abuse Prevention/Intervention Program. The position emphasizes a commitment to preparing young individuals for their future careers by exemplifying, mentoring, and monitoring excellence in the eight Career Success Standards, which include: workplace relations and ethics; information management; communications; multicultural awareness; personal growth and development; career and personal planning; interpersonal skills; and independent living.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Uphold and exemplify the core values and operational principles of Eckerd Youth Alternatives.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive programs focused on substance use and abuse prevention and intervention in collaboration with the Mental Health Consultant, Health Services staff, center physician, and Center Director.
  • Oversee all initiatives aimed at reducing substance use and ensuring compliance with relevant guidelines.
  • Facilitate training sessions for both staff and students on topics related to substance use and abuse.
  • Provide recommendations to the Center Director regarding medical terminations linked to substance misuse, in conjunction with relevant health professionals.
  • Act as a liaison between the center and external agency resources and referral contacts.
  • Monitor the behavior and progress of participants in the Alcohol and Other Drugs of Abuse Prevention/Intervention Program.
  • Maintain confidential records and reports for all referrals and cases.
  • Prepare and submit necessary reports as required.
  • Participate in mandatory staff training sessions.
  • Effectively communicate and model appropriate employability skills, including personal responsibility and computer proficiency.
  • Ensure accountability among staff, students, and property while adhering to safety protocols.
  • Foster a respectful and harassment-free environment to ensure a safe learning and working atmosphere.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Possession of an active, unrestricted substance abuse license or certification that meets state requirements.
  • Preferred one year of relevant experience.
  • Experience working with youth is preferred.
  • A Master's degree and prior experience with disadvantaged youth, particularly in a residential context, is preferred.
  • A valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record is preferred.
Additional Skills: Comprehensive knowledge of counseling techniques and intervention programs related to alcohol and other drugs. Ability to design, develop, and implement effective programs for substance use and abuse. Proficient training skills in both individual and group counseling methods. Strong organizational skills are essential. Certification in CPR/First Aid is required. Excellent oral and written communication skills are necessary to effectively engage with the trainee population. Proficiency in operating office equipment and computer systems is required. Additionally, the ability to collaborate effectively with team members and maintain positive working relationships with all facility staff and departments is crucial.
