About the Job

Senior Staff Registered Nurses play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and leading clinical operations at Houston Methodist. As a Senior Staff Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality patient care, mentoring and coaching department staff, and contributing to the development of clinical standards and guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide professional direct patient nursing care to a diverse patient population, including those with complex needs.
  • Assist in coaching and mentoring department staff in areas of clinical and professional practice.
  • Lead department clinical activities, assess department needs, and serve as a clinical resource for department staff.
  • Coordinate department education in partnership with management.
Essential FunctionsPeople
  • Identify staff development opportunities for professional growth of colleagues.
  • Provide coaching to meet identified goals.
  • Act as a model and coach staff in effective verbal, non-verbal, and written communication.
  • Provide oversight for new employee preceptorships.
Service
  • Role model patient and family-centered care standards.
  • Mentor others regarding specialty populations.
  • Audit plan of care.
  • Practice in a manner that is congruent with cultural diversity and inclusion principles.
Quality/Safety
  • Model standards of care related to the nursing process.
  • Provide care as the staff nurse leader to complex patients.
  • Anticipate and prevent declines in patient condition and emergent situations.
  • Identify areas of practice improvements with research-based evidence.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Three years of nursing experience.
  • One year in specialty preferred.
  • RN - Registered Nurse - Texas State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure within 60 days.
  • BLS - Basic Life Support (AHA).

  • Demonstrate skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job.
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers.
  • Strong assessment, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
