Job Summary

  • The Registered Nurse in the Special Care Unit at Avera St Mary's Hospital will be knowledgeable in the care of patients across various age groups, including infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, providing care for patients with respiratory conditions, congestive heart failure, chest pain, cerebrovascular accidents, diabetes mellitus, infectious diseases, psychiatric crises, general pain, cancers, traumas, and acutely ill medical patients requiring ICU monitoring.
  • All nursing care functions and responsibilities will be based on the American Nurses Association (ANA) standards.
  • The nurse will be responsible for ensuring compliance with physician/provider orders.
  • The nurse will adhere to the Nursing Code of Ethics, Avera's Mission, and Avera's Service Excellence Standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality patient care, demonstrating expertise in critical care nursing.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized patient care plans.
  • Monitor and manage patient conditions, including respiratory, cardiovascular, and neurological systems.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians.
  • Participate in educational opportunities to maintain current professional clinical competency.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a Registered Nursing Education program.
  • At least 3 years of experience in critical care nursing.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required within 1 year of employment.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification recommended.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification required within 1 year of employment.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification required within 1 year of employment.

Work Schedule

  • Hours: The position requires 72 hours worked in a six-week schedule, equating to 624 hours annually, not exceeding 1248 hours in a 12-month period.
  • Six weekends are required annually.

Compensation

  • Flat rate pay of $50.00 per hour.
