The Traveling Instrumentation & Controls Technician III possesses expertise in fundamental aspects of power generation electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and hydraulic instrumentation & control systems.

  • Positions will be primarily based at the McGuire Office Complex. Extensive travel may be necessary.
  • Nuclear access acquisition and maintenance is mandatory. Additionally, a DOT medical card is required.
  • The Specialty Services I/E Group includes Breaker/Switchgear Teams, Generator Breaker and Isolated Phase Bus Teams, Testing Teams, and Instrumentation-Control-Electrical Teams operating in the Carolinas.
  • This posting will position successful candidates within the Bus Team of the Specialty Services Group.
  • The Nuclear Traveling Instrumentation & Electrical Technician is adept in essential aspects of power plant electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and hydraulic instrumentation & control systems.
  • Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
  • Conducting assigned calibration, maintenance, and repair of electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and hydraulic instrumentation & control systems in a safe, reliable, economical, and environmentally responsible manner.
  • Executing assigned maintenance tasks independently or collaboratively as required.
  • Reading and interpreting basic I&C and Electrical control diagrams, work orders, and/or plans.
  • Assisting in quality and productivity control.
  • Effectively communicating with maintenance personnel at all levels by keeping colleagues and leadership informed of work progress and challenges as they arise.
  • Understanding and adhering to all relevant safety standards.
  • Utilizing human performance tools and techniques.
  • Maintaining high housekeeping standards consistently and ensuring no reportable incidents regarding cleanliness occur within the area of responsibility.
  • Developing proficiency in the use of calibration equipment and specialized tools.
  • Gaining general knowledge of equipment maintenance procedures, instruction manuals, drawings, and codes.
  • Obtaining and maintaining unescorted nuclear access.
  • Achieving proficiency in the use of company-provided computers and associated software programs necessary for completing Nuclear & Regulated & Renewable Energy tasks.

Required/Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma / GED

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year of closely related experience with electrical bus systems
  • Experience troubleshooting electrical/instrumentation equipment
  • Proficiency in reading electrical diagrams, schematics, and one-line drawings
  • Familiarity with electrical/instrumentation testing equipment
  • Experience with lockout/tagout procedures for electrical equipment
  • Current Nuclear Access
  • Experience with Power Plant Generator Breaker Maintenance

Specific Requirements:

  • Valid Driver's License
  • Completion of the Power Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS) aptitude testing
  • Obtain and maintain unescorted nuclear access

Physical Effort Required:

  • Physical exertion related to power plant maintenance, including standing, lifting up to 50 lbs, walking, stooping, climbing ladders and stairs, and working extended hours.
  • Exposure to uneven and inclined walking/working surfaces; working at heights; working from scaffolds and platforms; working in confined spaces; and working in tight areas.

Working Conditions

  • Typical conditions associated with an operating fossil or nuclear power station, including extreme weather conditions, high temperatures, high pressures, high voltage electrical systems, and rotating machinery. Operation of vehicles and mobile equipment is required.

Working Hours and Travel

  • Schedules may vary based on project assignments and plant conditions. The incumbent will be expected to work weekends, shifts, and overtime. Travel away from the home base can be extensive throughout the year, with expectations to respond to unusual events and emergencies.
