**Job Summary:**

J.V. Manufacturing Co., Inc. is seeking a skilled Precision Surface Grinder 2 to join our team in the manufacturing department. As a key member of our production team, you will be responsible for grinding and manufacturing high-quality tool and die components with precision and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Grind and manufacture parts to expected quality specifications with moderate to little supervision.
  • Set up and operate manual surface grinding equipment, ensuring optimal performance and safety.
  • Follow established procedures and utilize technical expertise to safely manufacture dies, parts, and spare parts in a timely manner consistent with quality and SOP requirements.
  • Study specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualize product to determine materials required and fixturing to be used to fabricate parts.
  • Select proper abrasives to be used to manufacture various steels, powdered metals, and carbide.
  • Compute dimensions, plan layout, and determine grinding method and sequence of operations with minimal assistance needed.
  • Inspect parts before and after grinding for inconsistencies.
  • Measure, mark, and scribe metal stock for grinding, as needed, with minimal to no supervision.
  • Set up and operate machine tools such as precision surface grinders to machine parts, and verify conformance of machined parts to specifications.
  • May operate multiple machines, depending upon assigned work area.
  • May be required to set up and program CNC surface grinders, once trained.
  • Maintain all acceptable surface finishes per the function of the part with minimal supervision.
  • Support colleagues in performing required preventive maintenance on assigned machine(s), as needed.
  • Support colleagues in diagnosing and troubleshooting equipment or system failures.
  • Verify dimensions, stock allowance, and conformity independently.
  • Examine standard or previously used dies, tools, and jigs and fixtures, and recommend design modifications regarding construction and function of part when applicable.
  • Investigate problems that arise while performing a job and apply problem-solving techniques to attempt to resolve problems.
  • Maintain focus on productivity, maximizing uptime and records time accurately.
  • Participate in root cause and closure of NCRs with follow-up measures.
  • Complete required paperwork accurately and efficiently to verify work.
  • Properly track time worked using required methods and systems with minimal errors.
  • Participate in training and cross-training efforts, as assigned.
  • Initiate action to correct quality and safety problems or notify others of issues as appropriate.
  • May be required to train or assist colleagues.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of precision surface grinding experience.
  • Basic computer skills, including use and navigation of internet/intranet.
  • Ability to understand and apply appropriate usage of technology in a work environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with minimal supervision.
  • Interacts well with colleagues, vendors, and customers from all levels of the organization.
  • Proficient in reading prints and understanding terminology.
  • Motivated and willing to learn.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Basic Blueprint Reading Class.
  • Possess math skills in algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.

Work Environment:

This position is considered safety-sensitive, due to operating machinery and equipment.

The work week is a minimum of 40 hours, with additional requested overtime as business and operational needs necessitate.

Regularly works near moving mechanical parts.

Noise level varies throughout the different work areas.

Must wear appropriate PPE, as required, in work area(s).

  • General physical ability and mobility to walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to climb unusual heights on ladders, to lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderate to heavy loads (up to 50 lbs.).
