Position Overview:

JOB TITLE: Billing and Collections Coordinator

CONTRACT DURATION: 13 weeks

SHIFT: Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM

Compensation: $27.25 per hour

Application Requirements:

  • Diploma or certificate for the highest level of education completed.
  • Two professional references from managers or supervisors within the last two years.

Position Responsibilities:

This role operates under the guidance of the Billing and Collections Supervisor. Responsibilities include:

  • Analyzing Managed Care contract language and payment terms.
  • Conducting follow-ups with patients, insurance providers, and third-party payers to ensure prompt payment.
  • Understanding CMS regulations and insurance billing principles.
  • Utilizing appropriate coding systems including HCPCS, CPT, and ICD codes.
  • Maintaining compliance with billing and payment timelines set by Medicare and other payers.
  • Managing multiple hospital systems effectively.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in a hospital patient account environment.
  • A minimum of two years in hospital collections.
  • Customer service experience is essential.

Key Duties:

  1. Protecting patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  2. Ensuring a safe environment for patients.
  3. Addressing the needs of patients and their families during care.
  4. Auditing accounts for accurate insurance reimbursements.
  5. Maintaining a portfolio of accounts to meet productivity standards.
  6. Documenting payer follow-ups for effective account resolution.
  7. Addressing underpayments and completing appeals as necessary.
  8. Reviewing denied claims and taking appropriate action.
  9. Responding promptly to insurance correspondence.
  10. Processing insurance refunds and ensuring accurate account balances.
  11. Proficient in various computer systems and tools related to billing and collections.
  12. Staying updated on relevant billing and collection regulations.
  13. Performing additional duties as assigned.
