Laboratory Associate

The City of New York is seeking a highly skilled Laboratory Associate to join our team in the Distribution Laboratory located in Queens, New York.
Job SummaryUnder the supervision of the Sample Coordination Section, the Laboratory Associate will provide essential laboratory support for sample processing and analysis, ensuring compliance with New York State Environmental Laboratory Approval Program (ELAP) and other applicable regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Assemble and prepare drinking water sampling bottles, coolers, and test kits.
- Perform sample reception, sample kit, cooler distribution, and shipping tasks.
- Perform receiving, delivery, storage, and disposal of laboratory and field supplies.
- Clean laboratory glassware and plasticware for chemistry and microbiological sections as needed.
- Operate autoclaves, dishwashers, and reagent water systems in washroom and media room as needed.
- Prepare media, reagents, solutions as needed.
- Assist with filing and organization of records and documents for all sections of the Distribution Laboratory.
The Laboratory Associate may be required to work shifts including nights, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. They may also be exposed to infectious materials such as blood, body fluids, and tissue, and hazardous chemicals.
Preferred Skills- Basic computer skills with the ability to perform simple tasks such as data entry, responding to and writing emails, and tracking material inventory electronically.

A high school diploma or its equivalent and one year of appropriate full-time experience or training in a biological, chemical, or clinical laboratory, or eight credits, including laboratory coursework, in biology, chemistry, or medical technology from an accredited college or university, or a satisfactory equivalent combination of experience and education.
