Job Overview

The Engineering Manager - Flight Test is a pivotal role within GE Renewable Energy Power and Aviation, reporting directly to the Flight Test Operation Leader. This position is responsible for overseeing a diverse team of engineers and technical specialists dedicated to the Flight Test Operation. The manager will collaborate with various teams to promote continuous enhancement, ensuring the reliability and safety of flight test executions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Guarantee timely delivery of flight test aircraft, achieving a first-time yield (FTY) of 1 for designated test missions.
  • Lead a multidisciplinary team across various engineering fields, providing direction and technical guidance for assigned projects and personnel.
  • Set work group objectives aligned with technical and financial goals, clearly defining roles and responsibilities for team members.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of group efforts to ensure technical excellence, timely project completion, optimal resource utilization, and responsiveness to customer needs.
  • Identify the necessity for technical and program reviews; lead these reviews and ensure proper documentation of technical data in accordance with engineering standards.
  • Develop and execute plans to meet technical and program requirements, schedules, and contractual obligations. Regularly communicate project status and significant developments.
  • Effectively communicate complex concepts and influence perspectives on relevant topics, guiding others to consider alternative viewpoints.
  • Analyze internal and external business challenges, recommending best practices to enhance products, processes, or services while staying informed of industry trends.
  • Shape the strategic direction for the area of responsibility, including resource management and policy influence.
  • Facilitate the exchange of technical and project information across organizations and within the team.
  • Provide guidance for the analysis and evaluation of projects, ensuring compliance with business standards and product requirements.
  • Define and enhance product processes related to design, analysis, testing, materials, manufacturing, quality, and productivity.
  • Engage with management on technical, organizational, resource, and personnel matters.
  • Encourage professional development through timely feedback, training, coaching, and appropriate assignments.
  • Ensure adherence to company compliance initiatives and training within the team.
  • Develop proactive action plans to address potential issues.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science from an accredited institution, or a degree in another discipline with at least 6 years of relevant experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a technical or engineering role.
Eligibility Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to travel to support operations at various locations.
  • Willingness to participate in flight tests aboard experimental aircraft.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an FAA Class-3 medical certificate or equivalent.
  • Ability to secure a U.S. DoD Security Clearance.
  • Some roles may require access to Special Access Programs and additional security screening.
