Position Overview

The Aerospace Quality Assurance Lead is accountable for overseeing Quality Assurance, Quality Control, and serves as the Principal Inspector for Flight Test Operations. This role encompasses direct supervision of team members as well as indirect oversight of additional personnel. A thorough understanding of relevant FAA regulations, GE Quality standards, Boeing 747 aircraft systems, and turbofan engine operations is essential. In this capacity, you will manage significant and intricate projects with long-term implications for the business, navigate complex challenges within your area of expertise, and contribute to the overarching business strategy. You will play a supportive role in critical decision-making processes, requiring a high level of evaluative judgment to achieve desired outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

Core Duties:
  • Utilizes advanced judgment to make informed decisions and address complex challenges that affect the quality function and operational activities. Capable of evaluating the quality of information provided and engaging stakeholders with relevant inquiries. Proposes innovative solutions to challenges beyond established parameters and formulates actionable recommendations.
  • Leads a small to medium-sized team of direct and indirect reports. Develops and executes strategic plans for the designated area, including resource management and influencing policy development.
  • Analyzes straightforward internal and external business challenges and suggests best practices to enhance products, processes, or services. Remains updated on industry trends that may impact operations.
  • Designs, implements, maintains, and enhances all facets of an aerospace Quality Management System, including audit plans and processes that ensure compliance with internal, customer, regulatory (FAA, EASA), contractual obligations, and other relevant requirements. Holds responsibility for Flight Test Operation requirements concerning FAA regulations and Quality planning and execution.
  • Supervises the effectiveness and integrity of the 14 CFR Part 145 Repair Station & Quality Control Manual, Repair Station Training Manual, Operations Specifications document, and associated compliance artifacts. Ensures the Repair Station adheres to all applicable regulatory and customer requirements.
  • Monitors compliance with 14 CFR Part 91 regulations and requirements. Responsible for maintaining and adhering to all stipulations of Special Airworthiness Certificates, Conditions & Limitations, Experimental Aircraft Operation Procedures, and Letters of Authorization. Collaborates with technical operations and flight line teams to establish maintenance and inspection plans, minimum equipment lists, and aircraft maintenance technical records.
  • Oversees Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul - Turbofan Quick Turn processes, planning, and procedures from a quality perspective to ensure adherence and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Partners with site leadership to develop training programs aimed at continuously enhancing employees' technical skills and understanding of governing procedures, regulations, and requirements.
  • Leads the identification and implementation of Quality improvement initiatives. Collaborates with stakeholders to conduct effective root cause analyses and develop corrective/preventive action plans.
  • Facilitates consistency across GE Flight Test Operations to ensure effective management of Quality issues, minimizing impacts on safety and quality for the Flying Test Bed.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of a Safety Management System (SMS) in collaboration with Quality and Flight Test Operation leadership.
  • Ensures compliance with the DWFP program.
  • Incorporates Lean principles into operations, utilizing established toolkits for daily management and problem-solving. Conducts regular Genba walks and participates in those organized by other teams.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution in aviation sciences, aviation maintenance, quality systems, engineering, or a related technical field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of direct experience in a highly regulated quality management system within aircraft operations, aviation maintenance support, aircraft flight testing, engine development testing, or maintenance, repair, and overhaul of aviation systems.
Eligibility Requirements:
  • Valid FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) License.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD Security Clearance.
  • Willingness to work flexible and off-shift hours as business needs dictate.
  • Willingness to travel to support operations at offsite locations as required.
  • Able to fly aboard experimental aircraft and participate in development flight tests.
  • Must obtain and maintain FAA Class-3 medical certificate or equivalent.
  • Must meet all requirements of Zero Tolerance DOT/FAA Drug and Alcohol Testing Program.

  • Ten or more years of diverse maintenance experience with large transport category aircraft.
  • Three years of experience in approving aircraft for return to service.
  • Three years of supervisory or lead experience in aircraft maintenance.
  • Prior experience as a quality manager in the aerospace/aviation sector.
  • Experience in maintenance planning and maintaining technical records for large transport category aircraft.
