Position Overview


The Senior Pipeline Operations Specialist is responsible for executing the necessary tasks to effectively manage and sustain the compressor stations and pipeline infrastructure of Berkshire Hathaway Energy.

Pipeline Specialists are versatile professionals who engage in complex technical operations across a designated region on one of the largest interstate natural gas pipeline networks in the United States.

This role may focus on one or more of the following technical areas:

Control Systems - Install, maintain, and troubleshoot programmable logic controllers, human-machine interfaces, motor control centers, as well as medium and low voltage power distribution and pneumatic control devices utilized in pipeline operations.

Gas Measurement - Program, maintain, operate, and troubleshoot gas measurement apparatus including gas meters, control valves, relief valves, regulators, and associated software, while also monitoring gas quality control systems.

Corrosion Management - Install, maintain, and troubleshoot corrosion protection systems to ensure the integrity of pipelines. NACE CP1 Tester certification is preferred. Mechanical Maintenance - Install, maintain, troubleshoot, overhaul, and repair both rotating and reciprocating compression machinery. Liquefied Natural Gas Operations - Ensure the dependable operation and maintenance of processes necessary for liquefied natural gas production.

Underground Storage Management - Ensure the reliable operation and maintenance of processes required for the storage and delivery of natural gas from subterranean reservoirs.

Compressor Station Management - Ensure the reliable functioning of compressor station equipment. Pipeline Operations - Conduct pigging operations, implement damage prevention strategies, and maintain pipeline right-of-way.

Equipment Operation - Transport, inspect, maintain, and operate various heavy mobile equipment including backhoes, boom trucks, semi-trucks, dump trucks, excavators, skid loaders, etc.

Additional endorsements for hazardous materials and liquefied natural gas transportation are available. Welding - Pipeline welders must be qualified in API 1104 and ASME standards for welding on natural gas pipelines. Structural welders must be qualified in AWS standards. Environmental Compliance - Uphold environmental standards, manage environmental activities, and ensure regulatory compliance for assigned locations.

Key Responsibilities
Assist in executing scheduled preventative maintenance on operational equipment at the designated facility. Identify abnormal operating conditions. Support emergency response efforts. Locate pipelines and supervise third-party excavation and line crossings. Install and inspect pipeline markers.

Operate work equipment including, but not limited to, power tools, hand tools, and specialized instruments used in pipeline operations, maintenance, and facility repairs.

Maintain and operate facilities in accordance with specifications, codes, safety and environmental standards/records, and company operating procedures. Assist in maintaining records as per required state, federal, and company protocols. Review work assignments with the team to ensure tasks are completed following established safe work practices and reporting.

Qualifications
An Associate of Applied Science degree in a technical field is preferred.

Ideal degrees include Associate of Applied Science in aviation maintenance, diesel technology, natural gas, compression, instrumentation, controls, electrical, electro-mechanical, or corrosion.

A comparable undergraduate degree with a technical specialization certification is acceptable.

Typically, four to six years of relevant, progressive work experience would be necessary for candidates applying for this position who do not meet the educational requirements.

Successful completion of the Pipeline Technician Academy and/or achievement of at least one skill-block is required. A valid driver's license is mandatory.

Work schedules may vary, with some positions requiring overtime, overnight stays away from home, on-call duties, and rotating schedules, as well as availability for emergency response call-outs 24 hours a day.
