D.R. Horton, Inc. is currently seeking a Construction Area Manager. The ideal candidate will oversee a team of General Superintendents, Superintendents, and/or Project Managers assigned to various communities within a specified region, focusing on construction-related activities. Responsibilities include implementing all company policies and procedures throughout the construction process and ensuring quality control in the homes constructed.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Directing and managing construction activities in the field, either directly or through Project Managers, General Superintendents, and Superintendents.
- Establishing build timelines for each project and providing schedules to meet these timelines.
- Maintaining accountability for the profitability of homes constructed in assigned communities and managing costs by reviewing field purchase orders.
- Fostering training, communication, and development among Project Managers, General Superintendents, Superintendents, and field personnel.
- Overseeing field operations, production timelines, and ensuring quality control to meet company standards for homeowner orientation and occupancy.
- Ensuring all homes in the construction area adhere to contracts, specifications, and details, with all invoiced work meeting company standards and being fully complete.
- Ensuring assigned communities comply with all safety regulations in accordance with OSHA and state laws.
- Conducting site visits to assess quality and enforce policies.
- Engaging with public agencies, municipal governing bodies, public utilities, and industry associations to obtain necessary permits and approvals.
- Assisting fellow Construction Area Managers as needed.
- Addressing escalated issues with subcontractors.
- Responding to unsatisfactory survey feedback regarding construction and customer service to direct quality improvement initiatives.
- Conducting all business with professionalism and ethics to enhance customer satisfaction and contribute to the company's goodwill and profitability.
- Willingness to travel overnight as required.
- Supervises two or more employees.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Seven years of relevant experience and/or training.
- Possession of a vehicle and a valid driver's license.
- Extensive knowledge of construction practices and management skills.
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret construction documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project schedules.
- General understanding of municipal permitting, regulations, and building codes.
- Effective communication skills with customers and all levels of management and personnel.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication abilities.
- Proven commitment to customer satisfaction.
- Capability to manage budget and control cost overruns.
- Proficiency in utilizing DRH Construction applications on mobile devices or laptops.
- Ability to follow instructions provided in written or oral form or via DRH applications.
- Familiarity with MS Office and email.
- Physical ability to stand and walk for extended periods, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and perform various physical tasks.
- Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions and construction site hazards.
- Ability to work in a loud environment.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is preferred.
- Ability to thrive in a high-pressure, high-production environment.
- Bilingual skills in English and Spanish are advantageous.
