About the Role

The Dining Services Director is a key member of our team at Sunrise Senior Living, responsible for providing exceptional customer service and leading the dining and hospitality operations in our community. This role requires a strong leader who can manage a team, ensure high-quality food service, and maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Food Service Operations
    • Develop and implement menus that meet the dietary needs and preferences of our residents
    • Ensure that all food is prepared and served in accordance with Sunrise's culinary programs and standards
    • Manage food inventory, ordering, and storage to minimize waste and ensure freshness
  • Team Management
    • Recruit, hire, train, and develop a team of culinary professionals who provide exceptional service to our residents
    • Lead and participate in daily and monthly team meetings to discuss menu planning, inventory management, and other operational issues
    • Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to team members to ensure they are meeting their job responsibilities
  • Customer Service
    • Ensure that all residents receive exceptional customer service, including prompt and courteous service during meal times
    • Respond to resident complaints and concerns in a timely and professional manner
    • Work with the Wellness team to understand individual resident nutritional needs and preferences
  • Food Safety and Sanitation
    • Ensure that all food is handled, stored, and prepared in accordance with Sunrise's food safety and sanitation standards
    • Conduct regular inspections of the kitchen and dining areas to ensure they are clean and safe
    • Develop and implement procedures to prevent cross-contamination and foodborne illness
  • Financial Management
    • Manage the department budget, including food, labor, and other expenses
    • Develop and implement cost-saving initiatives to minimize waste and reduce expenses
    • Monitor and analyze financial reports to ensure that the department is operating within budget
Requirements
  • Education and Experience
    • Bachelor's degree in food service management, culinary degree, or equivalent training
    • Minimum 5 years supervisory experience in hospitality or fine dining industries
  • Skills and Qualifications
    • Proven ability to lead a team and manage food service operations
    • Strong communication and customer service skills
    • Ability to work weekends, evenings, and flexible hours
    • Basic knowledge of nutrition and modified diets
    • Current ServSafe certification
