This position is designed for recent graduates or medical laboratory scientists with limited experience, specifically those with less than two years in the field.
Under close supervision, the incumbent will conduct intricate analyses on diverse sample types. The role requires meticulous record-keeping and effective resource utilization to ensure reliable test outcomes. The individual will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, prioritizing quality, efficiency, and safety in all laboratory operations. Continuous learning to troubleshoot and resolve issues is essential, along with proper documentation of corrective measures.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct waived, moderate, and high complexity testing utilizing both manual and automated methods, adhering to all regulatory standards.
- Identify and resolve issues related to testing procedures, patient results, and specimen integrity, seeking assistance when necessary.
- Monitor and document quality control measures, assessing the acceptability of tests and instrument performance daily.
- Complete required competencies in line with regulatory requirements.
- Prepare reagents and controls, and process samples for additional testing as needed.
- Assist in maintaining inventory levels according to departmental requirements.
- Participate in mandatory training and educational sessions relevant to the department.
- Address clinical and customer inquiries, resolving issues with confidentiality and integrity.
- Ensure workspaces are organized, clean, and adequately stocked.
- Engage in quality improvement initiatives.
- Verify the accuracy of laboratory results.
Education & Experience
- A Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, basic sciences, or a related field is required.
- Eligibility for certification by a recognized national program, such as ASCP or equivalent, is necessary, with certification expected within the first year of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Comprehensive understanding of clinical laboratory processes and analytical techniques, including routine equipment maintenance and calibration.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills applicable in a laboratory environment.
- Capability to handle potentially infectious materials while adhering to safety protocols.
- Ability to perform mathematical and statistical calculations for laboratory data evaluation.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills to provide appropriate care for diverse patient populations, with an understanding of growth and development principles.
