We are seeking a highly skilled HIM Coding Specialist to join our team at Arkansas Hospice, Inc.

About the Role

This is a full-time position that requires a strong background in medical coding and experience working with electronic health records systems. As an HIM Coding Specialist, you will be responsible for assigning accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes to patient medical records, ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines and supporting maximum reimbursement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assign primary and secondary ICD-10-CM codes and identify co-morbidities upon admission
  • Monitor ICD-10-CM code assignment for accuracy through regular audits
  • Educate clinical staff on appropriate ICD-10-CM codes based on clinical documentation
  • Serve as a resource for directors, managers, physicians, and administrative staff on coding information and clarification
  • Coordinate with Compliance department staff on coding audit issues
  • Review and assign CPT codes to physician visits for all service lines
  • Query physicians on unclear or inadequate documentation for coding purposes
  • Reconcile hospice physician visits with EHR reports and submit weekly to Patient Accounts Department
  • Cross-train in other duties within the HIM department as needed
  • Maintain strict confidentiality at all times
  • Utilize excellent customer service skills and model teamwork and cooperation
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • An Associate Degree in Health Information Management with RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, or CPC coding credential required
  • A minimum of three years' experience in coding in a healthcare setting, with experience in ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding
  • Expert knowledge of coding principles and guidelines related to regulatory compliance
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and physicians, and work in a fast-paced environment
Compensation

The estimated salary for this position is $62,000 - $75,000 per year, depending on experience.
