Job Description

The Assistant General Manager at Dollar Tree is responsible for managing and coordinating the receiving, order filling, shipping, and off-shift operations of the distribution center in a productive and cost-effective manner.

They ensure that high standards of safety, quality, and customer service are met in the process of delivering merchandise to the stores.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure stores are supplied with ordered merchandise in a safe, timely, and efficient manner.
  • Establish productivity and quality goals and ensure that these goals are met.
  • Assist the General Manager with short and long-term planning, budgetary and expense control, and the implementation of operational policies, programs, and systems.
  • Monitor, evaluate, assess, manage, develop, and revise key productivity indicators to control costs.
  • Assist the General Manager with special projects and the identification of operational best practices.
  • Monitor the results of quality, accuracy, safety, and housekeeping evaluations to ensure adherence to company standards.
  • Assist the General Manager with staff hiring, orientation, training, performance evaluations, pay increases, and associate development.
  • When necessary, work with HR and management teams to ensure disciplinary actions or discharge measures are taken.
  • Share and provide appropriate information and anticipate the information needs of all distribution associates.
  • Review merchandise cuts, left behinds, shortages, mislabels, and load quality with the appropriate manager to maintain quality and inventory accuracy.
  • Ensure a clean, safe, and accident-free working environment with a focus on quality and accuracy.
  • Manage and monitor compliance with merchandise damage minimization efforts to ensure proper handling of merchandise.
  • Ensure department managers are distributing work assignments and applying company policies and procedures fairly.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in business administration or logistics preferred.
  • Minimum of six (6) years of distribution center operations management experience or equivalent.
  • Good working knowledge of distribution center practices and procedures.
  • Strong leadership, administrative, organizational, managerial, and communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Ability to assess, manage, train, mentor, and develop talent.
  • Strong analytical ability to gather and interpret information and develop, recommend, and implement solutions.
  • Strong business acumen.
  • Requires rapid and thorough independent decision-making and creative problem-solving skills, good judgment, as well as the ability to accept personal and departmental accountability for areas of responsibility.
  • PC skills, including experience with warehouse management systems, such as AS400 or Catalyst; strong MS Office Suite knowledge to include: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook; familiarity with the Internet and Internet-based applications.

Spanish/English bi-lingual is strongly preferred.
