Job Overview

Mountain Home is in search of a dedicated People Operations Specialist to enhance our human resources strategy and oversee daily HR functions. This role encompasses recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, compliance, benefits administration, compensation, and training within a dynamic human services organization.

The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with our HR team to formulate and execute policies and procedures that prioritize equity, diversity, and inclusion, setting a benchmark in Montana's nonprofit landscape. The specialist will foster a culture of teamwork, innovation, and ongoing improvement to support Mountain Home's mission.

Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Nonprofit Administration, Business Management, Human Resources, or a related field, along with a minimum of three years of relevant experience.

Position Details:

  • Status: Non-Exempt, Full-time, 32 hours/week
  • Pay Range: $26.00 hourly, commensurate with experience and education
  • Benefits: Comprehensive health, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, Employee Assistance Program (EAP), SIMPLE IRA with 3% match, over 25 days of paid time off annually, and a paid sabbatical every five years.
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday, with occasional evening and weekend work required.
  • Travel: Approximately 10% of the time.
  • Reports To: Human Resources & Administrative Director
Key Responsibilities

General Administration

  • Manage and oversee Mountain Home's HR database (currently BambooHR).
  • Evaluate existing HR systems and practices, proposing and implementing enhancements based on organizational needs.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of policies and procedures pertinent to the role.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant personnel management laws and regulations.
  • Facilitate effective communication with stakeholders regarding HR policies and practices.

Recruitment & Hiring

  • Continuously refine recruitment and hiring practices to enhance the applicant and employee experience.
  • Maintain updated job descriptions for all positions.
  • Implement targeted recruitment strategies to attract a diverse applicant pool.
  • Oversee the hiring process to ensure consistency and effective communication across departments.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Assist in the development and evaluation of Mountain Home's compensation and benefits plan.
  • Manage employee eligibility and enrollment for health, wellness, retirement, and leave benefits.

Training & Development

  • Conduct orientation for new staff and ensure effective onboarding plans are in place.
  • Update the all-staff training calendar annually, ensuring training is relevant and progressive.
  • Support managers in navigating HR issues, including training and performance evaluations.

Performance Management

  • Assist in designing a performance management system for employee evaluations.
  • Support respectful discussions regarding discipline and termination processes.

Employee Engagement

  • Build trusting relationships with employees while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Contribute to the organizational culture and participate in relevant committees.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Timely completion of paperwork and compliance with standards.
  • High employee satisfaction and wellbeing survey scores.
  • Maintain employee turnover rates at or below 25% annually.
