Position Overview:

The Medical Lab Scientist plays a crucial role in the Central Automated Lab, primarily during the day shift. This position is essential for delivering high-quality laboratory services that support patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

- Execute a variety of routine and advanced technical tasks in laboratory testing to provide critical data for disease diagnosis and treatment.
- Oversee and conduct both routine and complex testing procedures.
- Plan and organize work to ensure efficient distribution of tests, utilizing standard techniques and equipment.
- Operate and maintain sophisticated laboratory instruments, ensuring calibration and troubleshooting as necessary.
- Process patient samples accurately, adhering to established identification techniques and protocols.
- Provide expert problem-solving and consultation regarding specimen quality and test results.
- Maintain inventory and ensure compliance with safety and quality control standards.
- Participate in the validation of new laboratory tests and techniques, and prepare documentation for inspections.
- Engage in continuous quality improvement initiatives to enhance laboratory performance.

Qualifications:

- A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological, or Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology is required.
- Certification as a Generalist or Specialty by a recognized board/agency is mandatory.
- A minimum of five years of experience in a laboratory setting, including at least one year at Duke.
