Overview of Duke University Health System Clinical Laboratories
Join a passionate team committed to innovation and care in our state-of-the-art laboratories. Our facilities are accredited by the College of American Pathologists and certified under Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments.

Role Summary
As a Medical Lab Scientist, you will perform a variety of routine and complex technical tasks to generate data essential for diagnosing and treating diseases. Your responsibilities will vary based on the laboratory specialization.

Key Responsibilities
1. Coordinate and execute a range of routine and complex laboratory tests.
2. Schedule and manage workflow to ensure efficient distribution of tests.
3. Handle specimens and utilize both manual and automated equipment for testing.
4. Operate and maintain sophisticated instrumentation, ensuring compliance with standard operating procedures.
5. Process patient samples accurately, adhering to identification techniques and protocols.
6. Provide expert problem-solving and consultation regarding specimen quality and test results.
7. Maintain inventory and assist in validation testing for new laboratory techniques.
8. Participate in laboratory inspections and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
9. Train and mentor new staff, fostering a collaborative work environment.

Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological, or Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology.
2. Generalist certification required for general labs; specialty certification for specialized labs.
3. A minimum of five years of experience, including one year at Duke, with appropriate certifications.
