Compensation: Competitive hourly pay with shift differentials. This position is classified as non-exempt, making you eligible for overtime.

The Registered Neurodiagnostic Technologist embodies the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine, adhering to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, while complying with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory standards.

This role involves conducting neurological assessments and monitoring in various clinical areas and modalities, including: A. standard, long-term, or ambulatory Electroencephalography (EEG); B. Electromyography (EMG) and Nerve Conduction Studies.

This position may also encompass additional neurological testing and monitoring in areas such as: A. Visual, auditory, or somatosensory Evoked Potentials (EP) or Electronystagmography; C. Intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM).
The Registered Neurodiagnostic Technologist collaborates closely with other staff members in the Neurological Testing Center (NTC), including physicians.

Key Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:
Complete all necessary documentation prior to conducting tests, including relevant patient history. Clarify any unclear or inappropriate orders. Finalize billing information upon completion of procedures.

Independently prepare patients for testing and monitoring by accurately placing recording electrodes and following established protocols.

Identify technically inadequate signals and seek troubleshooting assistance when necessary.
Recognize abnormalities or potential changes and respond appropriately by communicating with a Coordinator or the relevant neurologist.
Maintain equipment in a clean and organized manner, ensuring supplies are stocked as needed.
Document studies and enter appropriate notes and clinical observations.
Encourage teamwork through effective interdepartmental communication and constructive problem-solving.
Provide training for new Neurodiagnostic Technicians and student preceptors.

Patient Care Responsibilities:


Explain procedures to patients, address their questions, and provide reassurance to help them relax as appropriate.

Assist older adults as necessary by assessing impairments that may affect testing procedures.
Provide basic personal hygiene assistance to patients as needed.
This role primarily involves interaction with adult and geriatric patients, with occasional interaction with neonates for EEG procedures.

Additional Duties:
Provide technical or administrative support in other areas of NTC as required.
Participate in departmental in-services, monthly staff meetings, and continuing education opportunities.
Assist with report typing, distribution, filing, and other storage tasks as assigned.
Offer consistent feedback and suggestions for improvement to the NTC Resource Coordinator and/or Manager.
Provide written and/or verbal feedback to the NTC Resource Coordinator and/or Manager regarding the performance of Neurodiagnostic Technicians and/or student preceptors.

Quality Management Responsibilities:
Engage in organizational and departmental quality improvement initiatives.
Communicate customer satisfaction issues to the appropriate personnel.
Contribute ideas and suggestions for process enhancements within the department.

Qualifications:

Required Education/Experience and Certification:
High School diploma or equivalent
CPR certification in basic cardiac life support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).
Registry in the relevant discipline (EEG, EMG) corresponding to the clinical area of work for the institution.
Registered Electroencephalographic Technologist (R.EEG.T) through the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET) for EEG
Registered Nerve Conduction Technologist (R.NCS T.) through the American Association of Electrodiagnostic Technologists (AAET) OR Certified Nerve Conduction Technologist (CNCT) through the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine (ABEM) for EMG

In lieu of registry, candidates may be considered who are board registry eligible and complete registration within 12 months of hire.


Preferred Certification:
In addition to EEG or EMG, registration in one or more of the following disciplines: EEG, EP, CLTM, CNIM
Registration through the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET) for EP, CLTM, CNIM
Prior experience in multiple ENDT modalities.
