Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Neurodiagnostic Technologist II to join our team at The University of Chicago Medicine. As a key member of our Epilepsy Peds Center, you will be responsible for performing standard procedures in an outpatient setting or as a portable study in the ER, ICU, radiology or inpatient units.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform neurodiagnostic procedures in accordance with technical standards set forth by the American Society of Neurodiagnostic Technologists (ASET) and the American Electroencephalography Society (AEEGS).
  • Maintain and improve clinical and technical knowledge, including the performance of advanced procedures under direct supervision.
  • Play a role in the general flow and operation of the lab.
  • Explain procedures, answer questions, and document medical history and other relevant information.
  • Document patient history in electronic medical records according to ACNS and departmental guidelines.
  • Apply electrodes according to the 10/20 System and add additional electrodes according to the 10/10 Modified Nomenclature System.
  • Obtain standard or extended recordings in an outpatient area or as a portable study in the ED, ICU, NICU, EMU, radiology or inpatient units.
  • Recognize artifacts and take appropriate steps to eliminate them using intermediate troubleshooting techniques.
  • Monitor other variables such as EKG, EMG, EOG, or respirations as technically or clinically indicated.
  • Use activation procedures such as hyperventilation, photic stimulation, and sleep when appropriate, and demonstrate additional activation procedures when necessary.
  • Select electrode combinations and create new montages and equipment settings for electroencephalographic recordings when clinically indicated under indirect supervision.
  • Determine the correct montages, filter changes, and activation procedures to enhance epileptic form activity or waveform morphology.
  • Perform advanced procedures under direct supervision.
  • Correctly identify normal and abnormal EEG patterns.
  • Summarize recordings for the purpose of informing physicians of abnormalities observed during the test.
  • Keep equipment clean and in good operating condition.
  • Familiar with diagnostic trouble shooting techniques and notify supervisors of problems.
  • Assist with scalp electrode placement and maintenance of scalp electrodes on intracranial grid patients using the 10/10 Modified Nomenclature under direct supervision.
Requirements
  • Graduated from an END or ASET online EEG 12 module course completion certification.
  • Must pass ASET competency skills and knowledge required by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET) for national board certification.
  • CPR certified in basic cardiac life support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) within 90 days of hire.
  • Must obtain ABRET R.EEG.T credentials within two years of hire.
  • Must be proficient with the International 10-20 System.
  • Minimum of two years directly related experience.
  • Must have entry-level knowledge of PC or Microsoft Windows.
  • Must possess the EEG Technologist Competencies set forth by ASET's National Competency Skill Standards.
Working Conditions

This is a full-time position working approximately 36 hours per week. The schedule will vary between Sunday-Saturday, with rotating weekends. The position will be scheduled to work 100% at the Hyde Park campus.
