Position: Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP/RRT)
The Respiratory Care Practitioner is responsible for delivering essential therapy, diagnostic, and emergency cardiopulmonary services for patients within healthcare facilities. This role includes ensuring that all medical equipment is functioning properly and providing necessary laboratory testing as required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Patient Services
- Administers scheduled and prescribed therapies efficiently and safely.
- Keeps thorough and precise records of all performed activities.
- Exhibits proficiency in using the medication dispensing system.
- Demonstrates expertise in pulmonary function assessments, adhering to established protocols and standards.
- Assists with managing inventory and maintaining quality control in laboratory settings.
- Collaborates effectively as a member of the healthcare team.
- Maintains professionalism and accuracy in all tasks, being mindful of patient and departmental needs.
- Monitors and evaluates pressure-volume and ventilation-blood gas relationships.
- Collects and analyzes blood gas samples using appropriate techniques.
- Conducts basic spirometry and measures vital capacity and oxygen saturation.
- Reviews patient histories to make informed recommendations for therapy, documenting findings accordingly.
- Performs electrocardiograms and Holter monitor tests, ensuring correct lead placement.
- Assesses and interprets age-specific data regarding patient responses to treatments.
- Engages with families or caregivers to involve them in the patient's care decisions.
- Supports the onboarding of new staff by providing training on departmental policies and validating competencies.
- Ensures all equipment is in optimal working condition and assists in troubleshooting issues.
- Keeps up-to-date maintenance logs for all required equipment.
- Documents therapy charges promptly and accurately, ensuring compliance with hospital policies.
- Transcribes verbal orders into patient charts, ensuring clear communication with nursing staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
Licensure and Education: Must hold certification or licensure to practice respiratory care in the relevant state. Current BLS and ACLS certifications are required. Blood gas licensure is necessary for specific states.
Experience: A minimum of one year of clinical experience in respiratory care is preferred.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Comprehensive understanding of various respiratory care modalities.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective interaction with patients, families, and staff.
