San Francisco, California, United States Crusoe Full time
Job Description

Crusoe Energy is a pioneering company that aims to unlock value in stranded energy resources through the power of computation. Our mission is to align the long-term interests of the climate with the future of global computing infrastructure. As data centers consume an exponentially growing power footprint to deliver technology to all connected devices, we are inspired by making sure that the energy meeting that demand is sourced in an environmentally responsible fashion. Crusoe co-locates mobile data centers with stranded energy resources, like flare gas and underloaded renewables, to deliver low-cost, carbon-negative distributed computing solutions. Crusoe Cloud is a managed cloud services platform powered by stranded energy that enables climate-friendly innovation in computationally intensive fields including artificial intelligence, graphics rendering, and computational biology.

As the Director of Engineering - Cloud Compute, you will play a pivotal role in building our foundational IaaS offerings and accelerate the development of our carbon-reducing, AI-focused cloud platform. Leveraging your extensive experience in cloud computing, you will lead complex engineering initiatives, mentor engineers, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable and reliable cloud compute solutions. Our customers include rapidly growing AI companies and enterprise AI teams who use our high-performance GPU compute products with VPC and cluster networking technology. We're now adding broad new compute and virtualization capabilities to meet the needs of our growing customer base.

A Day in the Life:

  • Serve as a team lead for cloud compute engineering at Crusoe Cloud, collaborating with leadership to define and implement the long-term roadmap and strategy for the team.
  • Guide the engineering team through architecture decisions, design processes, design reviews, code reviews, and implementation tasks.
  • Scale the team, including managing engineer onboarding, growing or hiring managers, and implementing team and org processes.
  • Stay aware of the latest trends and techniques in cloud software, incorporating these insights to maintain Crusoe's market-leading offerings.
  • Drive the hiring process to attract top talent, and implement strategies to retain and develop these professionals.

You Will Thrive in This Role If You Have:

  • 7+ years of engineering management experience, 10+ years of experience working in software engineering.
  • In-depth understanding of Compute products (CPU, GPU, ASIC accelerators) and how customers consume them.
  • Understanding of key hypervisors and virtualization technologies (e.g. KVM, VMware ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V) and how they enable cloud computing.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML workloads and how they drive compute requirements for the cloud data center.
  • Proven experience in building and maintaining scalable and highly available fault-tolerant distributed systems and application architectures.
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices and best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Benefits:

  • Hybrid work schedule.
  • Industry-competitive pay.
  • Restricted Stock Units in a fast-growing, well-funded technology company.
  • Health insurance package options that include HDHP and PPO, vision, and dental for you and your dependents.
  • Employer contributions to HSA accounts.
  • Paid Parental Leave.
  • Paid life insurance, short-term and long-term disability.
  • Teladoc.
  • 401(k) with a 100% match up to 4% of salary.
  • Generous paid time off and holiday schedule.
  • Cell phone reimbursement.
  • Tuition reimbursement.
  • Subscription to the Calm app.
  • MetLife Legal.
  • Company-paid commuter benefit; $50 per pay period.

Compensation Range:

Compensation will be paid in the range of $270,000 - $320,000. Restricted Stock Units are included in all offers. Compensation to be determined by the applicant's knowledge, education, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
