About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Software Engineering Manager to lead our Cloud Engineering team at SmartThings. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for managing a team of software engineers and contributing to strategic planning for cloud engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate both people management and software development leadership
  • Contribute to strategic planning for the cloud engineering teams
  • Lead the team through feature development of mission critical high volume services
  • Lead projects across technology teams
  • Interact with on site and global teams
  • Encourage innovation, inclusion, outside-of-the-box thinking, teamwork self-organization, and diversity
  • Manage and mentor engineers, meeting with team members to provide frequent feedback, and also evaluate performance
  • Offer perspective that drives change and motivates engineers to develop simple solutions to complex problems
  • Provide strategic direction that aligns with overall company goals
  • Stay on top of tech trends, experiment with and learn new technologies

Requirements

  • 5+ years experience in software development
  • 3+ years of experience leading software teams and managing performance
  • Comfortable managing team members with different skill sets and areas of focus
  • Experience partnering effectively across teams to manage scope, deliverables, and direct stakeholders
  • Experience effectively communicating context to the team(s) and managing other internal stakeholders
  • Experience developing web services and cloud technologies at scale
  • Understanding of large scale computing solutions, including software design and development, database architectures, cloud computing deployments, security, and performance tuning
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or similar field
  • Ability to travel up to 10-15%
