The role of Technical Expert focuses on leading the technical design and advancement of Axle Systems in Ford vehicles, encompassing both beam axles and independent suspension drive units.

  • Develop and uphold engineering specifications for axle design.
  • Collaborate with vehicle attribute teams (Dynamics, NVH, weight, energy management) to align axle system capabilities with vehicle-level objectives.
  • Facilitate technical design evaluations for product approvals alongside Core Engineers.
Your contributions will include...
  • Being the primary resource for problem resolution regarding launches, recalls, quality, and field issues.
  • Mentoring and training Axle System Design & Release engineers across various global regions.
  • Overseeing axle warranty expenditures and promoting best practices throughout Ford's axle systems.
  • Creating and maintaining Generic FMA documentation, SDS/Requirements, Test Procedures, and Core DVP.
  • Partnering with R&A to identify and formulate a technology roadmap for Axles, focusing on cost reduction and enhanced operational efficiencies.
  • Formulating axle supply strategies (in-house versus outsourced) in collaboration with purchasing teams.
  • Conducting global supplier assessments at both Ford facilities and external axle manufacturing plants, recommending optimal practices for production processes and quality assurance.
  • Providing technical guidance to Architecture, Core, and Applications teams in the development of axle systems.
  • Establishing best practices for interfaces with related components/systems as depicted in boundary diagrams.
  • Engaging directly with component technical specialists to ensure coherent alignment on requirement flows from components, subsystems, and complete axle systems.
  • Performing benchmarking to support current and future axle strategies.
  • Delivering technical leadership to broader Underbody Systems engineering teams.
  • Utilizing CAE modeling capabilities to enhance quality, boost efficiency, and minimize costs.
  • Designing and conducting training sessions.
Qualifications

Essential Requirements...
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in Automotive Axle Systems.
Preferred Qualifications...
  • Master's degree in Engineering.
  • Extensive experience in engineering design and release processes for Axles from initial concepts through to launch.
  • Proficient in creating and managing DFMEA/PFMEA/SCCAF/Control Plans/Drawings.
  • Familiarity with CAE tools and methodologies.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience with relevant manufacturing and quality processes.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with a focus on quality, innovation, effective communication, strong organizational abilities, and self-motivation.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to support new process development, issue resolution, and training for Design and Release engineers.
  • On-site collaboration is expected, targeting three days per week.
