Primary Role: Responsible for collecting samples from the treatment facility or distribution network, conducting routine water quality assessments, managing sample custody, data entry, compliance documentation, and recordkeeping.

Responsible for organizing functions and activities related to environmental management and water quality for the designated region. Investigates water quality concerns and determines necessary actions. Maintains all relevant laboratory certifications, accreditations, or approvals to perform compliance and process quality control tasks. Implements programs to ensure adherence to environmental regulations. Assists with operator training, licensing, and continuing education unit applications/tracking.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Conduct sampling and/or analysis as required to ensure compliance with federal and state water quality regulations and company-approved water quality standards.
  • Prepare regulatory reports, plan and permit renewals, and training materials.
  • Provide regulatory support to ensure compliance with all current and upcoming EPA/IDEM/local regulations.
  • Contribute to Emergency Response Planning activities.
  • Assist in the training and development of Operations staff.
  • Collaborate with external customers to build strong relationships and resolve water quality issues.
  • Evaluate and monitor supplies and other laboratory expenses to help maintain the lab budget.
  • Conduct system site visits in preparation for regulatory inspections, tracking deficiencies until resolution.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Understanding of basic chemistry and laboratory techniques, as well as quality assurance/quality control programs.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and working knowledge of Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Knowledge of federal and state environmental standards and regulations, along with an understanding of current environmental legislation.
  • Regulatory knowledge of appropriate laboratory analytical testing methods.
  • Must comprehend principles of water and/or wastewater treatment and possess troubleshooting skills.

Experience/Education:

  • Minimum of two (2) to four (4) years of experience in water, wastewater, or environmental compliance.
  • A two-year degree in physical, chemical, or environmental sciences may substitute for experience.
  • High School diploma/GED required; an associate's degree is preferred.

Certifications & Licenses:

  • Drinking Water and/or Wastewater license preferred.

Work Environment:

  • Laboratory, indoor/outdoor, production/office settings.

Travel Requirements:

  • Local and regional travel may be required.

Other:

  • Must possess a valid state-issued driver's license.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift 35 lbs.
  • Stairs may be required.
  • Must be able to distinguish colors to conduct testing using standard colorimetric methods.
