Job Summary:

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to fill the position of Security Officer. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of our community members and facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and patrol campus facilities to prevent and respond to security incidents.
  • Provide excellent customer service and respond to inquiries and concerns from students, faculty, and staff.
  • Lock and unlock buildings, doors, and classrooms as needed.
  • Operate security vehicles and equipment, including golf carts and state vehicles.
  • Respond to emergencies and contact police, fire, and rescue services as necessary.
  • Patrol parking lots and issue warnings or citations for parking infractions.
  • Escort individuals to specified locations or provide personal protection as needed.
  • Monitor and check fire and safety devices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements:

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn new software.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving history.
  • Ability to pass a background review, including criminal history and driving history.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
  • Basic knowledge of campus environment and/or security industry, relevant laws, and safety and fire prevention.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in law enforcement or a related field.
  • Demonstrated strong student orientation and customer focus.
  • A strong service orientation and ability to work in a diverse, multicultural community.

Working Conditions:

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond to emergency situations. The Security Officer will be required to work a variety of shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
