Job Overview:

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a dedicated Police Officer to uphold the laws and regulations that govern our communities. This role is essential in providing safety and security for the college environment and its surrounding areas.

Key Responsibilities:
- Enforce the laws of the Commonwealth and adhere to the regulations of the agency.
- Provide protection for individuals and property on campus and nearby locations.
- Respond to law enforcement and medical emergencies with professionalism and courtesy.
- Conduct regular patrols of campus grounds to ensure safety and security.
- Offer assistance, directions, and information to the campus community and visitors.
- Enforce parking and traffic regulations, manage traffic flow, and investigate incidents such as accidents and thefts.

Work Schedule:
This position operates Monday through Friday, with varying shifts based on operational needs. All state holidays and weekends are off, with no overnight shifts required.

Ability to perform effectively under stress and in emergency situations. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Competence in handling agency-issued weapons and passing bi-annual qualifications. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Experience in report writing and information gathering. Familiarity with legal proceedings and court testimonies. Clean criminal background with no felony convictions. Successful completion of background checks and drug screenings. DCJS law enforcement certification for Virginia.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience in a college, military, or municipal police setting. Background in Community Policing. Relevant training or credentials in law enforcement. Current or former DCJS Instructor Certification. In-depth knowledge of law enforcement principles and safety procedures. Ability to provide clear instructions to ensure compliance with laws and regulations. Current CPR/AED/First Aid Certification.
