Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled Family Support Specialist to provide critical support services to incarcerated fathers and their families in the community.

Scope of Work

The successful candidate will work closely with the full-time DOC Family Support Specialist at the Family Connections Center at the Northern NH Correctional Facility, Berlin, NH. Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining the organization and orderly flow of the Family Connections Center.
  • Scheduling, monitoring, and completing assessments of video visitation between incarcerated parents and their children, including providing parent coaching after each visit.
  • Facilitating support groups and curriculum-led classes for participants in the program.
  • Providing administrative support services as needed.
  • Coordinating and cooperating with other agencies and officials to ensure the effectiveness of the Family Connections Center.
  • Attending relevant staff meetings, conferences, and working with other State agencies as schedules permit.
  • Reviewing and mailing out recorded audiobooks and books to incarcerated parents' children.
Requirements

To be considered for this role, candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree from a recognized college in child development, family studies, social services, psychology, sociology, or a related field, and a minimum of two years' experience working in a position related to child development or family support. Alternatively, an Associate's degree from a recognized college in these fields, accompanied by three years' experience in Corrections, with some familiarity or experience in understanding child development and/or family support, is also acceptable.

Candidates must also undergo a criminal background check and obtain training and certification as a New Hampshire Department of Corrections Volunteer.
