Surgical Technologist

We are seeking a skilled Surgical Technologist to join our team at Northwell Health. As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of surgical procedures.
Key Responsibilities- Implement and communicate the age-specific plan of care and provide thorough reports at change of shift and relief time.
- Communicate with team members regarding the need for special equipment and supplies, and implementation of care per established policy.
- Participate in turnover activities and room setup for each surgical procedure, including connection of suction, electrical cords, power cables, and electrocautery.
- Monitor each case to ensure all infection control measures are met and all sterilization is adhered to.
- Establish and maintain a sterile field and monitor the aseptic technique of the surgical team.
- Document accordingly and take corrective action as necessary.
- Adhere to and monitor principles of aseptic techniques in the clinical environment.
- Maintain environmental controls and take appropriate precautions regarding waste disposal.
- Perform sponge, sharp, and instrument counts with the RN according to policy.
- Take appropriate action when counts are incorrect.
- Ensure appropriate and safe use of equipment and instrumentation prior, during, and post-operatively.
- Second assist as needed under the direction of the surgeon.
- Minimum of one year of experience as a Surgical Technologist or in a clinical setting required.
- Successful completion from a nationally accredited educational program for surgical technologist, and holds and maintains a certified surgical technologist (CST) credential administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) required.
- Completed an appropriate training program for surgical technology in the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, or Public Health Service Commissioned Corps.
- Provides evidence that the person was employed as a surgical technologist in a healthcare facility for a cumulative period of one year, occurring within the four years immediately prior to January 1, 2015.
- Ability to function effectively in emergency situations.
The salary range for this position is $52-$65/hour.
