Job Title: Sanitation Manager

The Sanitation Manager will oversee and develop the sanitation department to ensure compliance with all company and regulatory product quality standards, sanitation standards, food safety standards, employee safety and environmental standards, and enforces GMP's and implements HACCP processes and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and lead the facility's sanitation program; provide guidance and direction to personnel to ensure all aspects of sanitation and janitorial programs and processes are in compliance.
  • Conduct audits and observations of Sanitation Tech and Operator workers to ensure all safety and GMP policies are followed for area of responsibility and that proper safety and personal protective equipment is utilized, including but not limited to: gloves, chemical suits (coats, pants), safety glasses, safety harnesses, and hearing protection, etc.
  • Schedule staff to timely satisfy business requirements; adjust work procedures and scheduling to meet production schedules.
  • Support the Quality Assurance Department in ongoing and daily implementation of the SQF program; provide assistance to troubleshoot identified issues.
  • Coordinate and monitor cleaning schedules, Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS) and effectiveness.
  • Ensure that personnel know the location and use of MSDS binders and are trained in proper use and handling of chemicals they use or may be exposed to in the performance of their jobs.
  • Conduct presentations and facilitate to provide information to vendors, customers, auditors, management, and other plant employees.
  • Participate in development of annual department budget; manage department labor cost and expenses within budget.
  • Ensure that daily chemical inventories are maintained for each department.
  • Maintain the chemical storage cage and hazardous waste disposal areas in clean, orderly condition. Ensure that all containers, chemical sprayers, etc. in use are properly labeled.
  • Manage the Hazardous Materials program and coordinate as appropriate with EH&S department; ensure personnel are authorized and trained in chemical handling and job requirements
  • Ensure chemical spills and/or container leaks are timely reported to appropriate management and promptly contained and cleaned up.
  • Conduct reviews of chemicals used in sanitation and work with EHS Manager to ensure that the Material Data Safety Sheets (MSDS) are maintained current and reflect new or discontinued chemicals.
  • Train, coach, and certify Sanitation Technicians in all aspects of equipment operation.
  • Inspect products and equipment for conformity in sanitary and pest-control procedures.
  • Maintain daily reports of sanitation duties performed for departments; provide other reports as required or requested.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with safety and environmental, wage and hour, and GMP rules and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of sanitation procedures and protocols for meat processing (USDA) and sauce processing operations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to effectively train sanitation techs, lead(s), supervisors, managers, in sanitation and chemical requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Speaks effectively and clearly to peers, upper management and customers when needed.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, with the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, weight measurements and volume.
  • Ability to solve practical problems in situations with a variety of variables.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to forward think and plan over a 30-day time span and prepare action plans to achieve results.
  • Ability to interpret and follow instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Associates (AA) degree in general studies, business, or food industry production operations.
  • 3 years' experience in sanitation management programs for food processing operations, preferably for meat processing industry.
  • 3 years' experience supervision in manufacturing environment.
  • Or, an equivalent combination of training, education and experience.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Work Environment:
  • Industrial food processing plant and office environment.
  • Requires frequent walking, climbing, and standing, occasional sitting.
  • Requires operating a computer and other electronic equipment.
  • Plant environment is subject to temperature extremes.
  • Wet and slippery surfaces.
  • Occasional lifting of weight up to 50 pounds.
  • Extended work schedule periodically, generally during promotions; overtime and weekend work required.
