Position Overview

The Director of Clinical Education is tasked with implementing the strategic educational framework of the organization. This role encompasses leadership, mentorship, and expertise in educational standards and regulations.

The Director is responsible for the planning, development, execution, and assessment of educational initiatives across various clinical disciplines within the organization. This position involves overseeing clinical educators at both the market and facility levels, managing departmental operations, and coordinating educational programs. Collaboration with team members, department heads, medical staff, and other leaders is essential.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Collaboration


• Directs and aligns departmental activities with applicable regulations and organizational policies.


• Engages in interprofessional collaboration to enhance patient and family satisfaction regarding nursing care quality, teamwork, and communication.


• Ensures that policies and procedures are up-to-date and evidence-based.


• Conducts interviews, recommends hires, and provides leadership, management, and coaching to staff.


• Completes performance evaluations and maintains departmental competencies.


• Encourages professional growth and supports nursing staff in achieving certifications and engaging in professional development activities.


• Collaborates with the Continuous Improvement team to ensure successful project execution.

Strategic Planning and Organization


• Analyzes needs assessments and contributes to the strategic educational planning process.


• Manages program activities, including human resources and budgetary considerations, ensuring alignment with the organization's mission and goals.

Staff Development and Education


• Oversees the delivery of ongoing staff development programs, performance improvement initiatives, and special projects related to education and professional growth.


• Works with national and market directors to identify and refine clinical competencies that require annual review and updates.


• Implements a systematic approach for the creation and review of nursing competencies.


• Evaluates educational programs and professional development offerings for continuous improvement.


• Conducts learning needs assessments and develops educational programs based on identified needs, providing performance metrics to department leadership.


• Develops and implements educational action plans based on survey results.

General Practice and Compliance


• Actively participates in projects that promote nursing excellence and professional development.


• Maintains awareness of organizational, regulatory, and educational requirements, communicating relevant information effectively.


• Ensures compliance with nursing education and oversees mandatory training assignments.

Additional Responsibilities


• Takes responsibility for special projects as assigned.


• Educates and shares knowledge with team members.


• Manages the continuing education unit application process.


• Integrates LEAN methodologies into daily operations.


• Oversees affiliation agreements and manages clinical instructors and students.


• Fosters collaborative relationships with educational institutions.


• Participates in the development and presentation of formal continuing education offerings, working closely with nursing leadership to address specific educational needs.

Qualifications

Education:

Required: Master of Science in Nursing from an accredited institution.

Experience:

Required: Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.

Preferred: Experience in teaching and staff development.

Certifications:

Required: Current state nursing licenses and American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
