Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team at the Naval Nuclear Laboratory. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, maintaining, and optimizing mechanical systems essential to Navy operations and a professional work environment.

Job Summary:

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for providing expertise in engineering and operating mechanical systems such as HVAC, steam and condensate, compressed air, plumbing, and radiological ventilation. You will lead efforts in planning, designing, and overseeing the maintenance and alteration of system equipment and facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical expertise in mechanical systems and equipment
  • Lead planning, design, and maintenance efforts for mechanical systems
  • Collaborate with on-site craft organizations, service subcontractors, and project managers
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and develop engineering solutions
  • Act as a technical lead for project scoping, design reviews, construction support, and commissioning
  • Manage facility equipment operations, maintenance, repair, and construction activities
  • Evaluate current systems and propose engineering solutions to enhance reliability, performance, and efficiency
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external vendors
Requirements:

To be considered for this role, you must have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 6 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 4 years of relevant experience; or Currently or previously Shift Supervisor Part I qualified; or EDO qualified and 2 years EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; or 3 years SRE qualified and Water Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and Fuel and Barrier Shift Supervisor (ECF only); or SRE qualified and 6 years of experience.

Preferred Skills:
  • Experience in engineering design, troubleshooting, or repair
  • Knowledge of New York State Mechanical Code and ASHRAE Fundamentals
  • Proficiency in developing engineering documents and reviewing technical drawings
  • Familiarity with Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) concepts and predictive maintenance technologies
  • Experience in leading verification and acceptance testing for facilities projects

Salary range: $92,145.20 annually. Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
