Job Title: Landscape Architect Trainee/Assistant Landscape Architect

This is a challenging opportunity to join the New York State Department of Transportation as a Landscape Architect Trainee or Assistant Landscape Architect. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing plans, specifications, and estimates for landscape and environmental projects, as well as providing technical assistance and advice to project staff and management.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare plans, specifications, and estimates for landscape and environmental projects
  • Provide technical assistance and advice to project staff and management
  • Organize and facilitate public meetings, workshops, and hearings
  • Develop pedestrian facility and compensatory wetland mitigation designs
  • Evaluate projects proposed by local governments, developers, and organizations for impact on adjacent State properties and the need for environmental analysis and approval
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's or higher-level degree in landscape architecture or a related field
  • Proof of passing any two sections of the Landscape Architect Registration Exam (LARE)
  • Or a Landscape Architect's License from any state or political subdivision of the United States

For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
