Job Summary:

Mercer University is seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to join our team. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the design and development of software systems, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality software solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop software systems using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcomes.
  • Develop software and cybersecurity program area standard operating procedures.
  • Consult with engineering staff to evaluate software-hardware interfaces and develop specifications and performance requirements.
  • Perform as a strategic subject matter expert, providing input to cybersecurity policies, procedures, or standards.
  • Design, create, modify, integrate, test, or maintain system software, applications, embedded software, engineering/scientific software, web applications, machine learning, and/or artificial intelligence-based software solutions.
  • Communicate with colleagues and more senior developers on technical designs and development.
  • Document the software design using flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, self-documenting code, inline comments, and/or other appropriate documentation.
  • Develop software solutions by studying user requirements, data usage, and systems flow.
  • Provide project status to internal and external customers.
  • Analyze source code and recommend software quality and/or performance improvements.
  • Manage the software development life cycle.
  • Decompose complex software requirements into actionable steps.
  • Manage role-based access control and access control list for systems and devices.
  • Prepare reports on programming project specifications, activities, or status.
  • Direct system testing and validation procedures.
  • Direct software programming and documentation development.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, customers, and other companies on software and cybersecurity product area projects.
  • Comply with all Executive Director approved MERC-wide policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to approved MERC MSP quality management policies and principles and promote an attitude of commitment to continuous quality improvement.
  • Ensure thorough familiarity and awareness of all MERC core capabilities and remain alert for any opportunities to promote MERC capabilities and interests to customers and potential customers.
  • Submit suggestions for new business opportunities or report identified customer problems or opportunities to the Director of Acquisition Strategy through a Chief Engineer.

Requirements:

  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance.
  • A Ph.D. in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science from an ABET-accredited institution and 3 years of directly related experience; or a Master's degree in same and 8 years of directly related experience; or a bachelor's degree in same and 9 years of directly related experience.
  • Three years of technical lead responsibility.
  • Possesses or is capable of possessing IASAE Level II Certification (CSSLP).
  • Competent in using Python, Java, JavaScript, J-Query, C#, and Dot.NET frameworks including MVC, Web Forms and/or Dot.NET core.
  • Competent in using secure coding practices.
  • Competent in using database design principles and Structured Query Language.
  • Competent in using the agile framework and software development life-cycle.
  • Competent in developing testing strategies for components and/or applications.
  • Additional requirements may be added as appropriate and as specified in the specific Personnel Requisition Form.

Desired Qualifications:

Possess Oracle DBA Certification.
