Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced MLS Laboratory Supervisor to join our team at Quest Diagnostics. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the laboratory, ensuring the highest quality of patient care, and maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the activities of the laboratory, including distributing work, determining priorities, and scheduling non-routine procedures.
  • Perform supervisory functions, including interviewing, hiring, training, and providing staff development through performance evaluation and corrective counseling.
  • Perform advanced/specialized tests and other related laboratory techniques, including duplicating work to confirm test results and re-evaluating methodology to make recommended changes.
  • Check and approve all specialized and problem reports for accuracy.
  • Initiate quality-control measures and monitor the quality of work to ensure adherence to laboratory standards.
  • Perform duties of Histotechnologist or Cytotechnologist and other Histopathology techniques as necessitated by absence or peak workload.
  • Complete special projects as requested, including surveys, statistical reports, and studies.
  • Ensure completion of preventative maintenance on all instruments.
Requirements
  • Minimum two (2) years full-time supervisory experience.
  • Minimum six (6) years clinical experience.
  • ASCP Certification in MT or MLS.
  • Eight (8) years clinical or anatomic pathology experience preferred.
  • Experience with EPIC/Beaker, LIS preferred.
  • ASCP Certification in HT, PA preferred or CT highly preferred.
Physical and Mental Requirements

The normal performance of duties may require lifting and carrying objects, including frequent lifting and carrying of objects 1 to 10 pounds, occasional lifting and carrying of objects 11 to 25 pounds, and seldom lifting or carrying of objects 36 to 50 pounds. Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time. May be required to use a wide variety of manual and automated pipettes and laboratory instruments and apparatuses, all of which demand significant manual dexterity.

Knowledge and Skills
  • Comprehensive theoretical and operational job knowledge in designated specialty required.
  • Knowledge of organizational/departmental policies and procedures.
  • Proven leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be detail-oriented, have the ability to work independently, establish work priorities, and handle several tasks simultaneously for maximum department efficiency.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to deal courteously and effectively with employees, co-workers, and clients.
  • Ability to deal with client information in a confidential manner.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems.
