Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Instrument Person to join our team at Weeks Marine. As an Instrument Person, you will assist in surveying the earth's surface to determine precise locations and measurements for construction, land division, and other purposes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in planning, diagramming, and layout for surveyor work.
  • Perform manual labor related to surveying needs, such as cutting brush for lines, carrying stakes, and/or pins, and right of way markers.
  • Assist in establishing elevations and/or grades as required.
  • Install or mark elevations as instructed by the Surveying Journeyman.
  • Measure distances manually with survey chains using a plumb bob and maintain survey chains to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Set up and operate electronic measuring and sighting equipment as needed.
  • Operate and maintain survey tools and instruments.
  • Inspect work to ensure that survey work is conducted in conformance with applicable standards.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent with previous experience in the field or a related area.
  • Strong working knowledge skills and abilities for the position.
  • Ability to work 84-hour work weeks and live aboard a vessel for full rotations.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Ability to understand hand signals.
  • Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with craft workers.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and layout tools safely and efficiently.
Working Conditions

The Instrument Person will work in a construction environment and will be exposed to changing outdoor weather conditions. The person in this position needs to constantly move about a construction/industrial site, so should be able to stand, walk, sit, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl. Work irregular hours, weekends, overtime, and holidays as required. May be required to use ladders/mechanical platforms/manlifts/scaffold to access required equipment/work areas (may exceed 200 feet), so must be able to climb and maintain balance on formwork, steel formwork, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds. Move and work in and around confined and cluttered places, and uneven surfaces. Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy and dusty environment. May be required/able to move items weighing up to 50 pounds across the construction/industrial site. Must have required tools. Observe and comply with all safety and project rules, perform other duties as required. Ability to pass pre-access drug and alcohol testing, fit for duty medical, and background check. Must possess a valid Driver's license. TWIC - Transportation Worker Identification Credential (preferred). Must be able to tolerate rough seas, vibrations, heat, harsh weather conditions, confined spaces, and high noise levels.
