Job Summary

The Mohs Medical/Surgical Assistant provides assistance to licensed medical doctors in various settings, including clinics and outpatient surgical settings. This role requires providing safe, knowledgeable, and compassionate individualized care to all patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as a patient advocate during patient exams, surgeries, and treatments
  • Interview surgery patients to obtain medical information
  • Measure patients' vital signs, weight, and height
  • Prepare patients for physicians and review surgical informed consent
  • Record patients' medical history, medications, allergies, vital signs, and test results in an Electronic Health Record (EHR)
  • Assist physicians during surgeries while maintaining a sterile field
  • Properly numb patients' skin using local anesthetics and prepare and administer medications as directed by physicians
  • Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens and log them for testing
  • Explain surgical/treatment procedures, medications, diets, and wound care instructions to patients
  • Help physicians examine and treat patients, handing them instruments and materials or performing tasks such as giving injections and removing sutures
Requirements
  • One (1)+ year experience in a medical setting, required
  • One (6)+ months experience in a dermatological surgery setting, required
  • Thorough knowledge of medical terminology, required
  • Prior EMA experience, preferred
  • Knowledge of sterile technique, anatomy, and medications
  • Detail-oriented, professional attitude, and reliable
  • Management and organizational skills to support leadership
  • Ability to follow or provide verbal & written instructions with sufficient grammar and spelling skills
  • Interpersonal skills to support patient experience
  • Functional abilities to carry team member needs and a supportive work culture
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Basic to intermediate understanding of EHR programs
  • Specialty knowledge of systems relating to job function
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations for this position; general understanding of HIPAA guidelines
