Job Summary

The Medical Assistant/ LPN is responsible for ensuring efficient patient flow through the healthcare setting by facilitating examination and treatment in a culturally sensitive manner with exceptional customer service. This role contributes to patient care by preparing patients for visits, performing limited procedures, scheduling diagnostic tests or consults, maintaining patient records, organizing clinic/exam rooms, and assisting physicians, nurses, and other interdisciplinary team members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Schedule tests, obtain films and reports, and prepare laboratory specimens according to policy.
  • Assist physicians and/or nurses with special procedures and examinations as defined on the competency checklist.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team in coordinating and implementing plans for patient care, recording elements of the patient history for clinical staff review.
  • Electronically submit, call, and/or fax prescriptions and refills to outpatient pharmacies.
  • Maintain medical records, ensuring all required documentation is available in the medical record, distributing reports and correspondence, filing, photocopying, and processing forms related to medical charts.
  • Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of examination rooms, stock assigned areas, and ensure par levels of supplies are maintained, checking and completing required logs and equipment such as refrigerator logs, eyewash logs, emergency/crash carts, suction, and other required checks.
  • Perform clerical duties such as greeting patients, registration, scheduling, pre-certification of tests, procedures, and medications, processing insurance forms, preparing financial records, answering phones, and entering ambulatory care charges.
  • Perform simple procedures as directed by the nurse or physician and as defined on the competency checklist.
  • Perform vital signs, height, weight, and screening procedures and document in the medical record.
Requirements
  • High School Graduate
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program or at least one year as a Medical Assistant or CCMA or NCRMA certification
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) within 14 days
  • Preferred Licensure and Certification: Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) - National Healthcareer Association (NHA) or NCRMA
  • Knowledge Requirements: Basic typing and word processing
