Job Title: Laboratory Technologist

We are seeking a highly skilled Laboratory Technologist to join our team at the American Red Cross. As a Laboratory Technologist, you will be responsible for performing high-complexity testing on donor and patient samples, resolving compatibility problems, and providing basic reference and consultation services to hospitals and transfusion services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform duties associated with receipt, coordination, shipment, and transport of donor and patient blood samples.
  • Meet performance and productivity standards.
  • Perform daily equipment maintenance checks and assist with routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of laboratory equipment.
  • Perform serologic, molecular, and immunologic procedures, including DNA extraction, PCR amplification, sequence-based typing, and other procedures as defined.
  • Recognize testing irregularities, identify the cause, determine the solution, and resolve the problem or refer it to the appropriate level.
  • Communicate with hospital or transfusion facility personnel to report patient findings and/or receive orders.
  • Review and interpret final results, prepare reports, and maintain accurate, legible, and complete records.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Biological Science or Chemistry required.
  • Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Medical Technologist (MT), Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS), or equivalent certification preferred.
  • 1 year of commercial/clinical laboratory, blood banking, HLA, or molecular laboratory experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience preferred.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Critical-thinking skills and attention to detail.
