Position Overview:

The English as a New Language (ENL) teacher is responsible for delivering essential services to English Language Learners and students requiring at-risk interventions. This role involves collaborating with general education teachers to provide specialized instruction, ensuring students progress in their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills while accessing the FLACS K-5 curriculum, which aligns with New York State Next Generation Learning Standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement rigorous, standards-aligned lesson plans that are culturally relevant and promote critical thinking.
  • Employ student-centered teaching strategies to engage learners and tailor instruction to meet diverse needs.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers for co-planning and co-teaching.
  • Utilize assessment data to refine instructional methods and enhance student achievement.
  • Maintain effective classroom management and adhere to school policies to foster a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Establish a classroom culture that promotes respect, inclusion, and high academic standards.
  • Provide timely feedback on student work and maintain clear communication with families regarding student progress.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and contribute to collaborative learning communities.
  • Share effective practices with colleagues and participate in school-wide initiatives.
  • Manage regulatory and instructional responsibilities as an ENL educator.
  • Conduct assessments to determine student eligibility for ENL services.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred.
  • Prior teaching experience is preferred.
  • New York State Teaching Certification in English to Speakers of Other Languages (all grades).
  • Successful completion of a fingerprint and criminal background check.
