Position Overview:

The English as a New Language (ENL) teacher plays a crucial role in supporting English Language Learners (ELLs) and students requiring at-risk interventions. This position involves working collaboratively with general education teachers, providing specialized instruction, and ensuring students' access to the FLACS K-5 curriculum, in alignment with New York State Next Generation Learning Standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement engaging, standards-aligned lesson plans that promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Utilize student-centered teaching strategies to meet the diverse needs of learners, enabling them to access grade-level content.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to co-plan and co-teach lessons.
  • Analyze assessment data to refine instructional practices and enhance student achievement.
  • Maintain effective classroom management and adhere to school-wide policies to foster a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Establish a classroom culture that values respect, inclusion, and high academic standards.
  • Provide timely feedback on student work and maintain accurate records of student progress.
  • Engage with families to communicate students' strengths and areas for growth.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and contribute to professional learning communities.
  • Share effective teaching practices with colleagues to enhance overall instructional quality.
  • Manage both regulatory and instructional responsibilities as an ENL educator.
  • Administer assessments to determine student eligibility for ENL services.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred.
  • Prior teaching experience is preferred.
  • New York State Teaching Certification in English to Speakers of Other Languages (all grades).
  • Clearance for fingerprint and criminal background check.
