Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Architect to join our team in Honolulu. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for delivering successful design outcomes on budget and within schedule. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mid-to-large scale, complex projects, and a proven track record of balancing technical requirements with design vision and intent.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and develop projects of medium to large scope, interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating team assignments.
  • Define the scope, selection, and development of novel concepts and methods.
  • Incorporate the overall design intent established by the Project Designer into detailed technical documentation, ensuring consistency and design quality.
  • Monitor the design process from conceptual phase through construction administration, ensuring design ideas are consistent and properly executed.
  • Report on progress of assigned tasks during schematic design, design development, and construction document phases, managing project team and reviewing labor hours spent against budgeted labor estimates.
  • Communicate scope, schedule, costs, and budget requirements for each task.
  • Ensure construction detail documentation and drawings conform to quality assurance, quality control, and best practice standards.
  • Coordinate the preparation of technical drawings and specifications.
  • Regularly communicate with client representatives to verify design requirements and specifications, progress reviews, and delivery of final presentation.
  • Document and write reports to consultants and vendors to issue changes and track resolutions.
  • Attend on-site visits, participate in field reviews and project meetings, and coordinate the review of contractors' schedules and submission of shop drawings.
  • Prepare meeting minutes.
  • Direct and review the work of the team, providing mentoring and development opportunities.
  • Foster a green workplace through sustainable work practices and incorporate sustainable design solutions into projects.
  • May participate in business development opportunities.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture.
  • Professional license required.
  • Environmental accreditation preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience managing small to mid-size architectural projects, including urban and resort hotels, mixed-use and renovation projects.
  • Proficiency in technical skills, including AutoCAD and 3D modeling software, such as Rhino and SketchUp.
  • Strong proficiency in Revit.
  • Sketching skills required.
  • Advanced knowledge of architectural building systems, integrated design, trends, construction methodology, QA/QC process, CA process, building codes.
  • Experienced in client management and negotiations.
  • Effective project management skills, keeping within established deadlines and budgets.
  • Works successfully in a team environment and has experience supervising teams.
  • Manages multiple priorities of competing demand.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Travel may be required.
